The old station cafe at Delamere Forest offers excellent meals and waitress service. You can walk or cycle around the forest paths to work up an appetite.

From Sandbach drive to Middlewich, on through Winsford then follow signs for Chester A54. A few miles after Winsford go straight ahead across the A49 at the traffic lights and take the next major turn right (B5152) signed Delamere. Cross the busy A556 junction and follow the B5152 a mile further until you see the turning left for the station and car parks. Much favoured by cyclists.

Or, you you can continue a little further along the B5152 and turn right into the forest then follow a gravel road about half a mile to a LARGE forest glade car park.

Alternatively, drive about a mile further along the B5152 until you reach the crossroads. Turn left immediately after the crossroads into the car park. There is a shop and a restaurant. This restaurant tends to be quieter and not overrun with cyclists.

Originally part of the Forest of Macra in Mondrum, Delamere forest still covers some 4000 acres and is criss-crossed with paths. The highest point is Eddisbury Hill, site of a Saxon fortress with several tumuli. Adequate parking in the forest glade. Miles of pathways to walk (picture left).

Blakemere Craft Centre also has an excellent Restaurant. Follow the directions as above but TURN RIGHT at the traffic lights onto the A49. When you reach the busy A559 cross roads at Sandiways, turn right onto the A559 then immediately right into Blakemere car park.

There's a garden centre, as well as the craft centre, a blacksmith, falconry displays and aquarium.

Closed on Mondays.

You can also reach either of these places by leaving Northwich on the A559 dual carriageway in the direction of Chester.
